Starburns Industries is an innovative and imaginative full-service production company, specializing in stop-motion, traditional 2D animation and live-action. Starburns is a creator driven studio, whose founders are responsible for the creation of Adult Swim series like MORAL OREL, MARY SHELLEY’S FRANKENHOLE and RICK & MORTY; as well as the Academy Award nominated animated film ANOMALISA. Launched in the summer of 2010 to produce Emmy Award winning COMMUNITY holiday special, Starburns was founded in order to create a workspace that gives the support and freedom to original and creative people to make content that is funny, sad, strange, and beautiful.

 

Each of the Starburns founding partners came from years of experience producing prime time and cable TV shows. It was decided from the beginning that the studio should be built on the following principles:

1. We are a creator-driven studio that ensures that every part of the development and production process retains the creator’s original vision.

2. We avoid having a “house look” for our productions. Our studio curates unique styles that best fit the tone and feel of each project across a variety of animation mediums such as hand drawn, digital, stop motion, water color, as well as live action and hybrid approaches. 

3. We specialize in guiding people who are new to animation through the production and development process. This started during Rick and Morty, continued with Charlie Kaufman for Anomalisa and is still a major focus for our current projects in development and production. 

4. We pair animation veterans with up and coming artists to create a master/apprentice dynamic. The veterans serve as guise through the production pipeline while new artists bring state of the art approaches and technique.
